The Drama Desk Awards hosted a buffet and cocktail reception today for the winners of the 2007-2008 Awards, so they could receive their lovely trophies. The party was held at Tony’s DiNapoli, 147 West 43rd Street, Manhattan. Robert R. Blume, Executive Producer of the Drama Desk Awards show, and Bruce Dimpflmaier, General Manager of Tony’s DiNapoli, kept this event breezy and casual, no real speeches or structure, and everyone really had a great time.
Although many of the Drama Desk winners were out of town today and unable to retrieve their Awards, there were producers, publicists, and numerous personalities in the New York Theater community, who mingled and networked amidst the jovial crowd. The Drama Desk Awards honors Broadway, Off Broadway, and Off-Off Broadway shows, plus scholarship awards to high school seniors at La Guardia HS of Music, Art, & Performing Arts. Special Awards this year went to James Earl Jones, renowned actor, Edward Albee, renowned playwright, and 59East59 Theaters, as well as Playwrights Horizons.
