Patelson Music House, founded by Joseph Patelson in 1947, tonight presented its fourth Book Reading and Signing event, with Susanne Dunlap returning to read and sign her passionate novel, Liszt's Kiss. Ms. Dunlap told of Liszt's very amorous adventures. You can check your local bookstores and national book purchasing websites to order your own copy of Liszt's Kiss.

Ms. Dunlap sent a note:
Of all the bookstore events I have done since I started writing music-based historical fiction, none have been so meaningful to me as those at Patelson’s Music House. I was a customer of Patelson’s long before I knew I would ever be a writer. As an aspiring pianist passionate about music, I would make my pilgrimages to the best store for any musician to buy music. They always had the Polish editions of Chopin, the Henle Urtext editions of Beethoven and Mozart. The Durand editions of Debussy. And when a teacher suggested I get Cortot’s heavily annotated scores of Chopin and others, it was Patelson’s I turned to, naturally.

So when I came to the long, narrow shop with its walls of alphebetized and categorized scores and sheet music, I felt instantly at home. It was such a pleasure to talk about my books and play the music my characters would have heard in their time—in this case, the young Liszt in Paris during the 1832 cholera epidemic.

I’m so grateful that Marsha Patelson continues the family tradition in a store that is among the few New York retail landmarks to remain in these days of rampant development and conglomeration. And I’m honored to help bring life to the store with my words and music. I hope to visit again for my next book!

The Patelson Jazz guests were one again treated to wines from 67 Wine & Spirits, and Patelson guests browsed sheet music collections and the new Patelson Gift Boutique, stocked for Mother's Day, Father's Day, and even presents for yourself. This was, as always, a complimentary Open House, hosted by Marsha Patelson, and staff was on hand to help serve cheese and hors d’oeuvres.

The next Patelson monthly event, part of the Wine Wednesday series, will be Co-Hosted by 67 Wine & Spirits and Wine Cellar Sorbets, with choice red and white wines poured throughout the evening, plus a sparkling wine sorbet. Raffles will be drawn for a complimentary Dental Vist, with a Tooth-Whitening Kit, x-rays, and more, courtesy of Dr. Clarence Loflin. The date is May 14, 2008, with the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players. The complimentary evenings begin at 5:30 PM and last until 7:30 PM. Stop by Joseph Patelson Music House, 160 West 56th Street, across from the Carnegie Hall stage door, and tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com.
