Commemorative Piano Event for September 11 Memorial Tribute and CD Review

September 11, 2004 James and Kathy Fallon invited a group of renowned musicians, such as Frederic Chiu and Dr. Henri Delbeau to their lovely home tonight to honor the memory of September 11, 2001. We dined on hors d’oeuvres and wine and heard an impromptu concert on the Fallon’s Steinway grand piano, once owned by Van Cliburn. Dr. Kathy Reilly Fallon spearheaded a production of lullabies on a CD, entitled Heavenly Lullabies, with her won vocalizations and musical contributions of Lev Zhurbin, Frederic Chiu, and James J. Fallon. Dr. Kathy Reilly Fallon practices medicine at St. Vincent’s Hospital-Midtown and numerous other health centers. Dr. Reilly is also connected with the Salon de Virtuosi. Frederic Chiu has released many CD recordings and has received many awards, such as the Avery Fisher Career Grant. Mr. Chiu performs worldwide with orchestras and at universities and museums. James Fallon attends classes at Juilliard.
Some of the 24 songs recorded on Heavenly Lullabies are Clair de Lune, Chopin Opus 28, No. 15, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star (vocals by Dr. Fallon), Mozart’s Lullaby (Zhurbin on viola), Kinderszenen, Traumerei (Chiu on piano), and Kinderszenen, Opus 15, No. 1 (James Fallon on piano). These melodies are tranquil and nurturing, all splendidly performed. The concept behind this CD is that many babies are growing up without parents, due to the September 11, 2001 tragedy. This compilation of lullabies is meant to sooth and cradle them to sleep. There has been much notoriety offered to Dr. Reilly Fallon, as a result of her efforts on behalf of the youngest victims of September 11, 2004. Kudos to the Fallons for their charitable projects.
