Dr. Roberta E. Zlokower June 9, 2005 This CD is a collection of ballads, some made popular by other musicians, and some originals to this band. Catherine Dupuis is generous with scat improvisation and instrumental solos.
Notable tracks:
#1 – The Rules of the Road – Composed by Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh. Catherine Dupuis’ substantial orchestra led this danceable piece with strong guitar rhythms to enhance elongated, elegant vocalizations.
#6 – I Remember – Composed by Russ Kassoff and Deirdre Broderick. This mellow, melancholy, candle-lit original brings Ms. Dupuis to a whisper. Russ Kassoff turns a soulful solo into an extension of the melody.
#7 – I’ve Never Been in Love Before – Composed by Frank Loesser. To a soft Samba with persuasive percussion, Ms. Dupuis’ lyrical vocals are showcased. Her mood meshes with the rapturous music.
#9 – The Best Is Yet to Come – Composed by Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh. In jazzy, staccato Swing, Ms. Dupuis’ orchestra and vocals build in resonance. She welcomes the trumpet, trombone, and piano, with a solo that soon blends as one vivacious instrument.
