This is not a detailed and technically researched, travel documentary, but, rather, a mental and visual reflection of a wonderful trip.

Day 4, June 15, 2005
Settling In, Hanging Out in the Saloon

Today was the coldest day of the week, maybe 40+ degrees, it seemed, with rain much of the time. We traveled little today, as far as Stonington, and I washed and dried my hair in the creative fashion of getting into the shower cubby through the stormy deck. Showers are hot and cold, not forceful, but they work quite well. After all, all the water on the schooner has to be taken aboard at the beginning of the trip and must last for all the meals and cleaning in the galley, plus all the showers and all the washing of the deck and tools. Electricity was portioned out with the generator, for about an hour or two in the AM and again later before dinner. That meant no hair drying until the generator is on, and then a mad dash to take a turn at one of two showers. As it happened, there was plenty of time and space for both.

Lunch today was macaroni and cheese and salad, and dinner for me was tofu, with baked ham for the others. It was also Barb’s birthday, and Pam baked her a special chocolate cake. As we were in most of the day, I reviewed CD’s through Pam's stereo into the saloon with my headphones and CD player. I also tried, unsuccessfully, to organize a staff/guest talent show. However, I did manage to play a Django Reinhardt, French, hot swing CD in the saloon, and I felt right at home.
