This is not a detailed and technically researched, travel documentary, but, rather, a mental and visual reflection of a wonderful trip.

Last Night Aboard

This last AM of the last full day onboard was cold, not raining, not yet anyway. People began to re-group, wash hair, and a few cell phones appeared, thankfully not for long. As the mist blew in, we knew we’d be shopping once more, certainly not sunning. Lots of hair washing and lots of water-sightings. In fact, we saw an osprey nest, cormorants, seals, loons, and a bit of a porpoise. This was beautiful sailing. In North Haven, I shopped to drop – a lobster bib and book for a baby niece, fragrant soaps, mystery lighthouse book for a nephew, Boston Baked Bean candy for my father (to go with the, yes, Red Sox shirt and hat from Logan Airport), lupine (exquisite purple flowers of the Maine coast) stationary, more maple sugar candy for doormen at home, etc.

Breakfast had been homemade granola, fruit, and yogurt; lunch was a salad variety and, of course, delicious, hearty soup (always vegetarian or fish for me); and dinner was an early Thanksgiving of turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, gravy, and pumpkin pie! I took after-dinner photos of water reflections (a favorite motif of the French Impressionists, Manet and Monet), including those of schooner, Stephen Taber, and the gang sang songs a Capella with whiskey and wine. Even Barbara, 88, was there, holding her glass of spirits on ice, singing with the best of them.

Guests did some last-minute bonding, and Barb told me I “made her week”. Jeff (real name John) had a game going, where I did a fashion show for him each night with my India shirts and pants, sandals, jewelry, and rhinestone hats. It was fun, and, for the last night, I wore black pants and a black, but brightly flowered top with chiffony sleeves. Jeff told me I was “sunshine arriving on deck”. They, and all the guests and crew, MADE MY WEEK. I tried to photo groups of family and friends (old and new), as we just hung out.
