The Association of the Bar of the City of New York presents many special events, some of which have been reviewed in this magazine. On September 21, 2005, I had the homor to hear a fascinating lecture on Human Rights, given by the former President of Ireland, Hon. Mary Robinson. She was warmly introduced by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a 34 year member of this Association, and, later, a portrait of Justice Ginsburg was unveiled, which will be prominently displayed at the House of the Association.
On November 4, 2005, a Fall Friday Evening Chamber Music concert was elegantly performed by Frank Daykin on piano (a music critic on RobertaOnTheArts.com), and Cora Gordon, on violin. They performed Bach's Sonata No. 2 in A major, Prokofieff's Five Melodies, and Ravel's Sonate. Frank Daykin has played Ravel's complete solo piano works at the Ravel house-museum in France and was the first non-French winner of the Ravel prize in 1983. Cora Gordon performed radio recitals in Kol Israel and was a soloist with Holon Chamber Orchestra. This was a magical, mesmerizing recital, and I found the Ravel Sonate especially driven with texture and drama.
