Patelson Music House, founded by Joseph Patelson in 1947, tonight presented its début live music event, with Bernard Rose & Company, playing standards and Dixieland, with the accomplished Bernard Rose on saxophone, accompanied by Debbie Kennedy on bass and Nick Russo on guitar and banjo. Each musician took a solo, and there were featured duos as well. Bernard was the music announcer and raconteur, while Marsha Patelson, owner of Patelson Music House, welcomed the guests. She was warm and gracious in her remarks, remembering her late husband, Dan’s, 40 years in this eclectic and historical shop for classical and jazz sheet music and books. Marsha sat in with the trio, on cello, for Somewhere, from The Wizard of Oz. Another guest artist was vocalist Kerry Linder, who will lead the next Patelson Jazz event on March 14, 2007, 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
This was a complimentary Open House, hosted by Marsha Patelson, and staff was on hand to help serve wine, cheese, and turkey wraps. All catering was prepared by Ernest J. Klein & Company International Supermarket on Avenue of the Americas at 55th Street (212.245.7720). A surprise event was the choosing of raffle winners, and there were four. Patelson donated a generous store certificate, as well as a music calendar. In addition, Salon Ziba, hair salon of New York celebrities and New York clientele, donated two generous salon certificates for hairstyling or spa services.
Patelson Music House was packed with fans, and more guests arrived each few minutes. The music was lively, continuous, and performed with professional zeal. The next two Patelson Jazz events, also known as Wine Wednesdays, are March 14, 2007 and April 11, 2007. On March 14, the Kerry Linder Trio will perform, with Kerry Linder on vocals and percussion, Ian MacDonald on guitar, Laura Dreyer on sax and flute, and special guest, Bernard Rose, on clarinet. The complimentary evening begins at 6:00 PM and lasts until 8:00 PM.
