This record fuses jazz and world music with contrasting rhythms, performed by composer and pianist, Emilio Teubal, whose roots are in Spain and Argentina, with numerous musicians on clarinet, saxes, flute, and more. Exotic sounds emanate, sometimes with elegance, sometimes with edge.
All tracks below are composed by Emilio Teubal.
Notable tracks:
#2 – Capinias Mariano Gil joins the band for this track, and his flute soars above Emilio Teubal’s resonant piano, Moto Fukushima’s electric bass, and the saxophones. Franco Pinna, on drums, keeps a steady clavé beat. A long piano riff is joined by echoing brass.
#4 – Twisted Title Emilio Teubal’s native experience with Latin rhythms and tones gives his piano performance a sultry exoticism, with the addition of whispering cymbals and muted clarinet and saxes. Hints of Argentine tango, especially of the contemporary tango genre, abound.
#7 – Berry A mystical clarinet opens this track in rippling crescendos, re-appearing later in a slight rhythmic twist. Emilio Teubal takes a rapid riff with brass and drums in energized backup.
#9 – Sin Pestanias This is a moody, reflective piece, with an existential clarinet and saxes in a muted midnight mood. The atmospheric tones end the record in relaxed melancholia.
