Lola has been recorded in celebration of the 2003 birth of Casenave’s daughter, named Lola. There are two compositional Parts to this record, all composed for solo pianist, Gustavo Casenave, from Uruguay. The mesmerizing mood is rarely broken, and one can only imagine the inspired joy at the birth of Lola. Each of the two solo piano Parts could be considered Sonata length.
All music composed by Gustavo Casenave.
#1 – Part I – A racing, engaging treble evokes Bill Evans at times, followed by lighthearted lullabies in the highest registers. At about the twelfth minute of this Part, an exotic melody appears.
#2 – Part II – The music is melodic, ethereal, introspective, and playful, with hints of Satie, Poulenc, and Bill Evans. Waterfalls of nuanced notes exude energy and wonder, performed with a sense of solitude, solemnity, and sensitivity. At times, chords create brushed marching rhythms against a tip-toeing treble dance.
