One has to love a designer who names her shop OMO (On My Own) as Norma Kamali has done. Mannequins in the window demonstrate the cool esthetic of her jersey and lycra creations which lured me inside for a try. The leveled shop, suffused with heavenly light, entices exploration and a sense of discovery in each room. I chose a sleek, All-In-One-Dress, which could be worn in about a dozen different looks – a total wardrobe with the Hooded Jacket. At some point, a very gorgeous red head wearing big glasses and exuding command came into the area where I waited for my selections. “Are you NK?” I asked. “Sometimes,” she replied, and Ms. Kamali and I chatted for a moment before this genius of design and IT went about her work.

Then it was on to the crush of an eager ballet crowd at Lincoln Center. The New York City Ballet was performing a program guaranteed to please. As usual, the hall was full and our seats were close enough almost to be hit by flying jingles during the Tarantella! When we left, breathless from the program and talking with other fans, it was time for refreshment.

Fiorello’s was tumbling distance away for an after-theater supper or drink. We had both. I was glad to be back at the magnificent antipasto bar that did not betray my memory. We talked with people around us, were entertained by the waiters who managed a constant replenishing of huge platters of food, and finally decided on our meal. Even though we ate past the point of being satisfied – that would be - died and gone to heaven, I was already thinking about returning on my next visit and sampling more of the delicacies on display.

Bemelman’s Bar. Café Carlyle. Names that conjure up toney watering holes where one can listen to velvet jazz with Loston Harris or piano, as with the late, great Bobby Short, munch the tastiest of snacks, and take in the cabaret act of Rita Moreno. Just as real estate is location, location, location, these two rooms are atmosphere, atmosphere, atmosphere. Ms. Moreno worked the room with her wit, singing, acting and obvious enjoyment of performing for us. She always had and still has that indefinable IT.

Had another day come and gone so quickly? That’s what happens when you’re having the best of times.
