Patelson Music House, founded by Joseph Patelson in 1947, tonight presented its second début live music event, with the Kerry Linder Brazilian Jazz Trio, including Kerry Linder on authentic vocals and Brazilian percussion, Laura Dreyer on saxophone and flute, and Ian MacDonald on guitar. Joining the band was Bernard Rose on clarinet and soprano sax, both with the trio and solo, demonstrating new technology for state of the art, instrumental and acoustical backup. Also joining the band was Luiz Simas on vocals in Portuguese. Kerry Linder has a soft, persuasive tone, and her percussive embellishments were fascinating. Laura Dreyer performed on sax and flute with both fused and improvisational styling, while Ian MacDonald accompanied on mesmerizing guitar. Bernard Rose, once again, exuded professionalism and presence, with expert performance technique, and Marsha Patelson, as Host at her music store, welcomed the crowd with warmth and wit.
Bernard Rose will once again lead his trio at the next two Patelson Jazz events on April 11, and May 16, 2007, 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Debby Kennedy will return on bass, and Nick Russo will return on guitar. Tonight’s complimentary Open House was hosted by Marsha Patelson, and staff was on hand to help serve wine, cheese, and turkey wraps. Catering was prepared by Ernest. Klein & Company International Supermarket on Avenue of the Americas at 55th Street (212.245.7720). A surprise event was the choosing of raffle winners, and there were four. Patelson donated a generous store certificate, as well as a music calendar. In addition, Salon Ziba, hair salon of New York celebrities and New York clientele, donated two generous salon certificates for hairstyling or spa services.
Patelson Music House was packed with fans, and more guests arrived each few minutes. The music was lively, continuous, and performed with professional zeal. The complimentary Wine Wednesday evenings begin at 6:00 PM and last until 8:00 PM. Stop by Joseph Patelson Music House, 160 West 56th Street, across from the Carnegie Hall stage door, and tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com.
