Luiz Simas’ new Chorinhos are a collection of eclectic compositions, each with its own unique fusion of cultural genres. Tracks evoke fused classical, ragtime, and ballads with Afro-Brazilian rhythms. This music is danceable, singable, and ever-so-enjoyable. According to the record notes, “Chorinho” is a style of Brazilian music that originated in Rio de Janeiro toward the end of the nineteenth century…
All music composed and performed on solo piano by Luiz Simas.
#2 – Chorinho com Bossa – With a Bossa Nova twist, this melodic track exudes playful poignancy with echoing refrains. Simas’ originality and sheer sense of musicality is impressive.
#4 – Chorinho Bachiano – Imagine Bach in Rio. Simas has composed a fusion of Bach and Brazilian Samba in a rapid Baroque beat. The chords are engaging and indicative of professional training.
#5 - A Ladeira do Sobe-e-Desce - Here Simas blends Joplin technique into a Brazilian mood. The ultimate effect is charming, yet challenging.
#9 - Do Coração - This sultry track infuses tropical breezes in swirling, waltz-like imagery. This music should be heard often to appreciate the nuance.
