This solo piano recording of compositions by Friedman, Zoller, and Porter is an impassioned set of seven tracks, each stylized with seasoned improvisation. Don Friedman plays with a casual, flowing technique, but adds challenging ornamentations to the musical phrases.
#2 – I Concentrate On You – Composed by C. Porter. With contrasting tones and rhythms, Don Friedman’s interpretation of this renowned standard is fused with waterfalls of notes that extend the meandering melody. Don Friedman exudes the confidence of captivating his listener.
#3 – From A to Z – Composed by D. Friedman. This original title song has traditional qualities rarely found in today’s pop genres. Friedman infuses the melody with rapidly rambling echoes, as the theme develops into changeable variations.
#5 - Meant To Be - Composed by A. Zoller. With a mellow, mellifluous introduction, Friedman adds scintillating ripples down the scale. The tones of this tuneful track interchange with rapid, then slow, keyboard inventions.
#6 - Straight Ahead - Composed by D. Friedman. This upbeat, playful track is straight jazz with intertwining fingering in swirling sound. The composition showcases Friedman’s virtuosity as performer and composer.
