Dessoff Choirs: Morley, Wilbye, Gibbons, Di Lasso, Pilkington.
Patelson Music House, founded by Joseph Patelson in 1947, tonight presented a live classical music event, with Luellen Abdoo performing on solo violin with accompanying recorded piano. Her presentation was poised and professional, with Vivaldi’s “Spring” Concerto especially virtuosic. I also enjoyed St. Säens’ “The Swan” and Puccini’s “Musetta Waltz”. Also performing were Madrigal Singers from the Dessoff Choirs. Their combined performance of Morley’s “Now is the Month of Maying” and “Sing We and Chant It” was rich and textured, with excellent harmonies. Marsha Patelson, Proprietor, was warm and gracious in her remarks, recalling 40 years in this eclectic and historical shop for classical and jazz sheet music and books. This was a complimentary Open House, hosted by Marsha Patelson, and staff was on hand to help serve wine, cheese, and sushi. Patelson Music House was crowded with Carnegie Hall subscribers and music lovers from the New York music community.
The next live Patelson music event, part of the Wine Wednesdays series, is May 16, 2007, with Bernard Rose & Company trio in performance. The complimentary evening begins at 6:00 PM and lasts until 8:00 PM.
