(See a Review of the June 13, 2007 Wine Wednesday).

Patelson Music House, founded by Joseph Patelson in 1947, tonight presented another live music event. Tonight’s classical music program, presented on two trumpets, horn, and trombone, included such works as Gabrieli (“Canzona per sonare No. 2”), Purcell (Allegro and Air from “King Arthur”), Handel (Overture from “Music for the Royal Fireworks”), Beethoven (“Three Equali”), Palestrina (“Ricercar del primo tuono”), MacDowell (“To a Wild Rose”), and Joplin (“The Entertainer”). The musicians were superbly trained in this genre, and the elegant music wafted throughout the Patelson Music House. As it happens, I had visited the MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire as a teenager, and hearing “To a Wild Rose” again was very special.

This was, as always, a complimentary Open House, hosted by Marsha Patelson, and staff was on hand to help serve wine, cheese, hors d’oeuvres, and desserts. The next Patelson Music event, part of the Wine Wednesday series, is August 15, 2007, with the return of the Kerry Linder Trio, including Kerry Linder, on vocals and percussion, Marcos Vigio on guitar, and Laura Dreyer on sax and flute. This complimentary evening begins at 5:30 PM and lasts until 7:30 PM. On September 19, 2007, River Alexander’s Mad Jazz Hatters also has a return engagement. Stop by Joseph Patelson Music House, 160 West 56th Street, across from the Carnegie Hall stage door, and tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com.
