Kira and Natalie, two students at Joffrey Ballet School, joined me at the Grishko NYC Dancewear Shop on West 50th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues, close to Lincoln Center and New York City Center. The Joffrey Ballet School was founded by Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino in 1953. Its philosophy is centered on "deconstructing dance", so dance "flows naturally and passionately from within". Judging from Kira and Natalie's eloquent poses, they are absorbing the Joffrey School's vision and have bright careers onstage in the near future. The Joffrey Ballet School teaches a wide variety of dance courses for both men and women, including pointe, contemporary, pas de deux, variations, and jazz and modern.
Grishko's NYC Flagship Store, is known for its custom-fitted pointe shoes and ballet slippers, as well as its costume shoes for performance galas and company repertory.
