Tonight was the inaugural VIP event of the summer, the Gray Line NY Sightseeing “Dining on the Town” tour, with hotel concierges, NYC tour dignitaries, and others, who admire the ingenuity and wide selection of Gray Line NY tours, with new adventures each season. Mike Alvich, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, invited me to join tonight’s very special event. Mike Alvich and Shaimila Ogeer-DeSarno, of Gray Line NY Sightseeing, and Janet Barbash, of City Guide Magazine, managed the organization of this VIP inaugural tour. This Gray Line NY double-decker bus (there were two) was enclosed with see-through windows and ceiling, and we began the tour with a long-stem rose and bottled water. Guests pre-ordered from entrée selections, such as Vegetable Medley, seasoned and grilled, NY Strip Steak, in a burgundy wine sauce, and Chicken Marsala, sautéed with mushrooms. Very warm and cordial wait staff served the hot dinners, with salads, chocolate truffle, and Häagen-Dazs ice cream. A Gray Line NY tour guide elaborated on NYC history and visible iconic sites, throughout the tour.
The tour lasts about two hours, and the enclosed, climate-controlled, double-decker bus leaves Times Square, traveling downtown. We toured past a new pedestrian walkway, Greenwich Village, Chinatown, down to the New York Harbor, and finally to Brooklyn. Our “Dining on the Town” bus crossed the Harbor via the Manhattan Bridge, and we saw miraculous views of the NY skyline, South Street Seaport, and passing cruise boats. Lady Liberty stood proud and gleaming, as well. I met Joseph Herrans, Concierge, Hotel W, New York, Union Square, and John Janusz, Concierge, The Waldorf Towers.
