I was joined at Zucca Trattoria, on Seventh Avenue South, near all Village jazz clubs, downtown theatres, and sought-after boutiques, by Alonso Salguero, Founder and Owner of Salon Ziba, hair salon for the stars and for those who desire the look of a star. Alonso and I dined in the wide-windowed sidewalk cafe, which is open in warm weather, for expansive views of bustling Village shops and residents. The lively ambiance enhances lively conversation, and Alonso and I chatted about international travel, Broadway theatre, and Italian cuisine.

We dined on Golden and Red Beets, with Asparagus, Arugula, and Ricotta, Grilled Octopus, with Sherry Vinegar, Celery, Black Olives, and Cherry Tomatoes, Grilled Steak in Barolo Wine Sauce, with Fresh Vegetables and Potato, and Ear Shaped Pasta, with Broccoli Rabe, Sweet Italian Sausage, and Olive Oil. Alonso's red wine was smooth, while my white wine was crisp. Gino, Proprietor of Zucca Trattoria, from Puglia, Italy, where he grows his own olives and makes his own olive oil, joined us for dessert and espressos. Gino sent over Tiramisu and Italian Cheese Cake with Chocolate-Raspberry drippings. Call Zucca Trattoria at 212.255.1980, and reserve a table in their glass-enclosed sidewalk cafe. Ask for Gino and mention RobertaOnTheArts.com or JazzItalia.net, where Zucca Trattoria is prominently featured on the New York Page.
