My family recently met at the famed Publick House Historic Inn, in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, for our Thanksgiving dinner, which is near my father's retirement complex. We have a long history of enjoying Sunday and Holiday dinners at the Publick House, as it's a popular half-way point between New York and Massachusetts. From the moment you arrive, you feel steeped in New England history. In fact, Old Sturbridge Village is just a moment away, so the Publick House is a perfect dining destination for a day or weekend trip from the New York region.

The Publick House Historic Inn, built in 1771, also has 17 charming guest rooms, so you can make a weekend or longer of this sightseeing trip. There's also a Motor Lodge with bucolic guest rooms and balconies, and the renowned Bake Shoppe, for homemade pies, cakes, breads, and country styled gifts, with a coffee bar and tables to greet you at the door. Colonel Ebenezer's Tavern & Bar Carvery, with Revolutionary War roots, is within the Inn, for dinner and drinks by the fire. And, for corporate meetings, anniversaries, and weddings, the Publick House's function rooms exude historic hospitality with contemporary flair.

We all had a great time on Thanksgiving, with traditional roast turkey dinners (my niece chose pasta), and Michael Glick, General Manager, and Josh Reeves, Banquet Manager, stopped by to greet us. We dined in a historic fireplace room (there are many fireplaces) and later dashed off to see the new 3D film, "Hugo". The Publick House is extremely well located near all major highways in Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. They're planning Christmas, New Year's, and other Holiday dinners in the weeks ahead, but every day at the Publick House feels like a holiday, with such a vibrant ambiance.
