Just a short trip from midtown Manhattan, by car or car service, is a restaurant oasis that's situated right between a Bayville lane and a private beach on Long Island Sound. Wall's Wharf Restaurant, owned and operated by Carol Reinhardt, with her husband Bill, serves the finest and freshest of fish and seafood, including Long Island steamers, dug right nearby by a local Long Islander. At Wall's Wharf, you have a one-stop day at the beach, with an expansive bar, tables that face the sand and Sound, and even a private beach and lounge chairs for sunning and swimming and views beyond imagination.
This morning I called Colin, who has a private car and limo service in the New York area, and he drove me to Bayville (reachable by the LI Expressway or GC Parkway), past the bucolic scenery of Oyster Bay). I was fortunate to have a fine weather day for my lunch with Carol Reinhardt, to meet her Chefs, and to experience the ambiance. Executive Chef Dale Michishima, from Hawaii, and Asst. Chef, Sinan Gulay, from Switzerland, both stopped by to greet us, and the wait staff at Wall's Wharf was warm, helpful, and fun to be around. The lunch crowd increased during the afternoon, and the energy was lively, while the experience was luxurious. You could sip a martini, swim, beach comb, talk to fishermen, dine on fresh steamers, and sun bathe, all at the same destination, with your car right in their own parking lot.
For lunch, Chef Michishima sent several appetizers to share, including a fresh Mache Salad with Pink Grapefruit and Valencia Oranges, Sushi Grade Tuna in creamy exotic sauces, all in Taco shells, and Taylor Bay Scallops, baked with cut greens and Cajun butter. My Wine Spritzer was perfect for the day, and their full Wine and Cocktail list is eclectic. For our lunch course, Colin ordered Seared Salmon with Maple and Bourbon flavorings, I ordered the fresh Long Island Steamers, and Carol ordered a vegetarian Market Salad. The Wait Staff made me a homemade Lemon Sorbet in a cup, to go, plus a frothy hot Cappuccino. I can't wait to return to experience a full sunset dinner at Wall's Wharf Restaurant. I am told it's an incomparable view. When you visit Wall's Wharf Restaurant, bring a bag for sunbathing and plan extra time for a walk on the beach. Tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com!
