Tonight's Happy Hour Cruise, from 5:30 - 7:00 PM in North Cove Marina, aboard the Shearwater, an 82' sailing yacht built in 1929, was quite an exhilarating excursion. The wind filled the tall sails with energy, and we slid through New York Harbor's waves easily. Captain Matt was at the yacht wheel, always watching the water traffic, as ferries busily shuttled their passengers to and from New Jersey, Staten Island, and lower Manhattan. The Statue of Liberty stood elegantly in the dimming horizon, and wine and beer were enjoyed by the leisurely crowd.
After the sail, I watched the sun go down from a breezy corner table facing the water at P. J. Clarke's on the Hudson. The pink-orange sunset was scintillating on the glass facade of the World Financial Center, and families and couples strolled the North Cove Marina promenades, among joggers, dog-walkers, and the after-work Happy Hour crowds. In fact, P. J. Clarke's on the Hudson has an outdoor bar that was hopping and trendy. The harbor view slowly dimmed to twinkling luminosity.
