On an early spring visit to Chicago, to celebrate my brother's late March birthday, I spent the weekend at Intercontinental Chicago Magnificent Mile on North Michigan Avenue. The weekend was threatening unsettled weather, but I and my family were geared up for a great reunion birthday celebration. We had all researched the nearby restaurants, and our first choice for Opening Night of our weekend family fest was the expansive and elegant Grand Lux Cafe. It's located right above Ann Taylor, and the entrance is on Ontario, although the restaurant lists its address as North Michigan. If you're coming from out of town, they even have valet parking, but we walked over from the Hotel.

We started at the busy, bustling bar, after gazing at Grand Lux Cafe's ornate décor. The golden chandelier and folk-inspired expressionist art is beyond inspirational, and it all welcomes the guests into a splendid night out on the town. Antiques, stenciled walls, and thickly cushioned booths must be seen to be believed. Passing by the open kitchen, on our way into the bar, I couldn't help but photo the array of pastries, each more enticing, as the eye wanders. My niece, Jessie, seemed thrilled at the lively, pulsating music and energized ambiance. Grand Lux Cafe's floor to ceiling windows are especially glamorous at night.

In addition to the burgers, pasta, pizza, and salads, Grand Lux Cafe offers pan grilled and fire-broiled dishes galore, plus diverse international choices, like Chicken Enchiladas, Pan Roasted Chicken Breast, and Mongolian Steak. They also have Grand Combination Platters, like Chicken Royale and Shrimp Scampi. Weekend Breakfasts include a Baja Omelette and Banana Pecan Pancakes. For your next trip to Chicago, or if you're lucky to already live in the area, be sure to reserve a table at Grand Lux Cafe. Tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com!
