Joan Rivers has always been one of my favorite comedians, with her biting sarcasm and hilarious opinions about pop celebrities, politicians, and ethnic New Yorkers. I often watch Ms. Rivers as she sizes up Red Carpet outfits at the Oscars and other Award ceremonies, and she has an eye for devilish detail. Tonight, I sat with a group from Ireland, right near the stage, which could have been a disaster, as comedians love to add the front rows to their roasting remarks. A jazz pianist warmed up the sold-out crowd, and Ms. Rivers swiftly tore into PETA, Puerto Ricans, and Palin. No national or international icon was safe, and it was all in good fun. There was lots of self-deprecating humor, as well, and one can imagine how far that could go.
Ms. Rivers looks fabulous, and she wore black slacks and a silk jacket, with a fur thrown around her neck (her stuffed, deceased dog, she said). She just completed a tour in London, and she's working on some new material in this Chelsea Club. Don't miss Joan Rivers at The Cutting Room, only three more dates listed so far. You can order tickets through this website or call 212.352.3101.
