What an exciting week it was at Agua Dulce's One-Year Anniversary Tour of Seven Latin American Countries, celebrating their cuisine, their music, and even their dance! The seven countries whose food and music were explored were Mexico, Peru, Caribbean, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, and Cuba. On Monday I was joined by Carlos Salvador, an officer at TD Bank. It was Peru night, and the eclectic menu included an Assorted Anticuchos Platter, Torched Salmon Tiradito, and Chupe de la Mar. However, we dined light, on the Guacamole Trio, the Organic Salmon Citrus Ceviche with Orange and Pickled Chili, and the Laughing Bird Shrimp Ceviche with Charred Tomato and Habanero.
Monday night's entertainment included the Juan Pablo Jofre Latin Trio, with Juan Pablo Jofre Romarion on bandoneón, as well as musicians on drums and guitar. I was quite surprised to hear Tangos on Peru night, but this was an eclectic event with eclectic music. The trio performed some of my favorite Tangos, by Piazzolla, Pugliese, and Gardel. They also mixed in Peruvian ballads and smooth Latin fusion. On their break, Agua Dulce staff filled the restaurant with Latin Mambos and Rumbas.
On Wednesday night I was joined by Rafael Abreu, Marketing and Sales Director at Statue Cruises. It was Argentina night, and Rafael opted for the specially prepared menu. We began with Habanero Guacamole, and Rafael also chose, as an appetizer, the Beef Short Rib Empanadas with Chimichurri Dip. His second course was the "Gaucho" steak, a 14 oz. Prime Angus Ribeye, grilled with sea salt and Argentine olive oil. I chose the Kindai Hamachi Tiradito Yellowtail, with Passion Fruit and Asian Pear. The lovely Tango partners, who performed at intervals, were Dragam Ranitovic and Laurs Real from You Should Be Dancing...! Dance Studio, on Eighth Avenue at 31st Street. They brought their own Tango music, and it was heavenly. They spun about in various tempos, with stunning Tango choreography and impassioned affect.
The mood at Agua Dulce on both nights was energized and effervescant. Call 212.262.1299, and ask for Chris. Reserve a table for a special event, or lunch, brunch, dinner, or a tour, and tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com!
