There's exciting news in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen (Ninth Avenue in the Theatre District)! The former Agua Dulce space now houses Pier 9, a premier seafood bistro, with a casual seaside flair. Most of the staff remains the same, with Executive Chef Eric Hara (of the new 9 Restaurant next door) in charge of the busy kitchen. Pier 9 has a great raw bar, a chef's table, a huge event room with modern decor, and an outdoor rear patio, for that "at the shore" imagination.

The flooring is wide-board dark oak and cocoa and white ceramic tiles, while the lighted liquor ladder is now a deep ocean blue. Walls have a sandy cream patina, and original sail cloth adds texture and authenticity behind the old oak tables. The bar is larger and more open, and spring will provide fresh air from window panels that slide wide open for a sidewalk view.

Pier 9 serves dinner and brunch, and you can also dine at the bar. On the Grilled Fish menu, I found Lobster, Prawns, Salmon, and Tuna, with a choice of three sauces. Appetizers include Fried Blue Point Oysters and Lobster Mac N Cheese. Roasted Corn and Tempura Zucchini are on the Sides menu, and Steamers include Lobster and Dungeness Crab, also with a choice of three sauces. There's a Classics menu, as well, with Chicken & Chorizo and Chicago Style Lobster Hot Dog. Another Entrees menu features Ciopino, a great San Francisco seafood soup. You'll even find Mini Ice Cream Cones with Toppings among the desserts. The Wine, Beer, Cocktails, and Champagne menu is expansive, and the festive ambiance will inspire you to try new selections on each visit.

Call 212.262.1299, and ask for Alex, Malik, or Zaskia. Reserve a table or seats at the bar, and tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com!
