Nuela Restaurant, in the Flatiron District, has a pulse in the evening dinner hours, with a mix of Latin Jazz, that embraces its Nuevo Latina cuisine and warm, vibrant colors. I invited David and Ken, two theatre aficionados, who happen to be a newly wedded couple, to join me at Nuela for a dinner celebration and a NY culture conversation. David enjoyed Nuela's Chilean Chardonnay, while Ken and I shared a skyscraper-sized pitcher of white Sangria, made with white wine, Svedka vanilla, Canton ginger liquor, and fruit juice.

For appetizers, we chose Ensalada Solterito, with fava beans, ricotta salata, aji amarillo, and baby romaine, Skewered Shrimp Anticuchos, and Ajiaco Colombian potato soup, with corn, chicken, and potatoes. David chose two Cebiches as his main course, "Chifa" Bass Cebiche, with peanuts, scallions, Thai chili, and sesame oil, plus Tuna Cebiche, with charred pineapple, miso, and summer radishes. Ken and I shared a Chicken para Dos, with whole smokey Peruvian chicken, French fries, and huancaina sauce. Our table was plentiful, and we had a great time, with no room for dessert.

We were honored with a visit from Executive Chef, Adam Schop, while Sigi Pazos, Nuela's Manager, also stopped by. Nuela has party spaces, expansive bars, and a busy special event schedule. Stop by Nuela for an exotic cocktail, a Chilean wine, or the tallest pitcher of Sangria Blanca that you've ever seen. While you're there, try the Cebiches, Anticuchos skewers, and Colombian soup. You'll surely be back soon for dinner and dessert, as the exotic spices linger in the memory. There's also a Pre-Theatre Dinner, now, at $35. See below for details. And, when you arrive at Nuela, ask for Sigi or Todd, Nuela Managers, and tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com!
