Each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening, Cellar 53 Wine & Spirits, a lovely, spacious new wine boutique, in Midtown West, near Lincoln Center, John Jay College, and Off-Broadway shows, hosts wine tastings, with tables set up for vodka and tequila, liqueurs and cognacs, and selected vineyards that feature fine red and white wines. Tonight, I tried a tiny Cosmopolitan at the Ultimat Table, a Chimney Rock Cabernet, and a Val de Loire Sparkling Wine. The presenters for the tri-weekly tastings are informative and jovial, setting the mood to enjoy the experience.
While visiting Cellar 53 Wine & Spirits, its Manager, Kevin, can give you a personal tour of their vast, ever-expanding assortment of fine wines and liqueurs from around the globe. The aisles are wide, and the wines displayed for easy reading of labels and cards. Cellar 53 has free same day delivery in Manhattan from 48th to 58th Streets, 8th to 12th Avenues, with only a $20 minimum order. So, you can explore varietals, like Malbecs, Merlots, and Montepulcianos, or Gewurztraminers, Grenaches, and Gruner Veltliners. You can also shop by phone or online, from home, for reds, whites, and rosés. They're open until 10 PM, Monday-Saturday, and until 6 PM on Sundays. You can stop by Cellar 53 before a show, ballet, or concert, relax at the free wine tasting, order wines or liqueur for delivery to your door, and enjoy them later, when you arrive home.
