I was recently joined by a tap dance fan at Uncle Mario's Italian bistro, in the heart of Hell's Kitchen, for a pre-Sunday matinee lunch. We were on our way later to the New World Stages theater complex to see Maurice Hines' "Tappin' thru Life" show, for its final performance this season. Uncle Mario's is casual and welcoming, and its fresh, hot pastas are perfect for a chilly winter afternoon. My guest ordered Spaghetti Carbonara, with Cheese, Bacon, and Black Pepper. My pasta choice was Baked Cheese Ravioli, with Fresh Pasta Pockets filled with Ricotta and Homemade Tomato Sauce with Melted Mozzarella. My Pinot Grigio was chilled to perfection, and my guest enjoyed Draught Beer. For dessert, the waitress brought over a a very authentic, Fresh Bakery Cannoli, with Whipped Cream and Chocolate, then split it for 2 plates.

Please note that Uncle Mario's has one of the finest Catering Menus I've ever seen, for special events and parties at home. The Catering Menu includes Sausage and Broccoli Rabe, Shrimp Fra Diavolo, Baked Lasagna, Chicken Piccata, Orecchiette alla Barese, six-foot Heros, and a Cannoli Platter, among dozens! of additional options. They also have a lovely rear dining room for private celebrations or company meetings. Uncle Mario's is open 10 AM to 12 AM, Sunday through Thursday, and 10 AM to 1 AM, Friday and Saturday, making this comfortable venue perfect for brunch, lunch, dinner, pre-theater, and post-theater. Stop by Uncle Mario's on Ninth Avenue at the corner of 50th Street, on the way to or from local theater, dance at the Ailey Center, or when you're on a Hell's Kitchen stroll. Ask for David or Carmella, and tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com!
