I sat down earlier this week for Broadway conversation and lunch with the biographer, David Kaufman, whose book on Broadway icon, Mary Martin, star of The Sound of Music and South Pacific, was published in July by St. Martin's Press. A review of this fascinating biography is upcoming, on these pages. David and I dined on Paratha Bread Stuffed with Spinach, Vegetable Samosa, Vegetable Korma, Chicken Tikka Tandoori, Yellow Daal, and Basmati Rice. Basera has a busy lunch crowd, with daily specials and hot or cold drinks to choose from, including fresh mango juice (my choice) and iced Indian tea (David's choice).

Later in the week, I stopped by for a light supper, Prawn Balchao, in mustard sauce, Stuffed Naan with onions, and Chardonnay, and caught some Leonard Cohen songs being performed by Basera's evening entertainment. You can check with Basera to see their evening special events, and stay tuned to these columns for future event details. Basera has every-day Happy Hours, Monday - Friday 12-3PM, 5-8PM, Saturday - Sunday 2-7PM, and Every Night, 11PM-2AM! And, you can get a free shot with your first drink! Stop by Basera Indian Bistro, and tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com for a complimentary glass of wine or beer with dinner!
