I was recently joined by David LaMarche, Conductor, American Ballet Theatre, for dinner and conversation, at Meson Sevilla, a gorgeous and vibrant restaurant on New York’s famed Restaurant Row, in the theater district. Meson Sevilla, family owned and operated, is always warmly inviting, in décor and in ambiance. It was a sultry summer evening, and our cool, main dining room table was right next to a print of Picasso’s “Guernica”. We caught up on Ballet Theatre’s fantastic Spring Season, and, as always, discussed the orchestral highlights of individual ballet scores. We dined on tapas, to begin, and glasses of wine from Spanish vineyards.

We shared an order of Pimientos de Piquillo Tapas (Crabmeat Stuffed Peppers) and an order of Almejas Tapas en Salsa Verde (Clams in Green Sauce). Leo, the Meson Sevilla Manager, took great care with each dish and was attentive and gracious throughout dinner. For entrées, David enjoyed the Chuletas de Cerdo à la Riojana with Saffron Rice (Pork Chops, Tomato, Onion, Peppers), and I was extremely pleased with the Gambas à la Plancha with Saffron Rice (Grilled Shrimp, Garlic, Wine, Pimenton). The entrées were so generous that we each took a portion with us for a next day treat, or, rather, a next day tapas, as Meson Sevilla is famous for its tapas menu, the largest in New York City. Stop by Meson Sevilla on Restaurant Row, before or after a Broadway or Off-Broadway show, or to spend a languorous afternoon or evening amidst Spanish art and décor. Tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com!
