Tom McCaffrey, The New Yorker Hotel's Director of Marketing and Sales, kindly led me on another behind-the-scenes tour of the refurbishing and restoration of this 78 year-old famed hotel, which can accomodate well over 1,000 visitors/night. The re-decoration involved 100 rooms at a time, out of 911, beginning last April 2007 and ending this summer 2008. We saw the hand-carved ceiling being carefully crafted, painted, and portions replaced with exact replicas of the originals. We saw the guest rooms being outfitted with new mattresses and draperies, almost on the heels of the first guests to stay in these elegantly re-furnished surroundings. There was a busy, buoyant ambiance, in anticipation of the final flourishes. Almost champagne-uncorking time!

Stop by The New Yorker Hotel and check out the fine lobby in progress. Soon the colorful carpeting will be removed to expose glorious marble floors, hidden for ever so long, and the chandeliers will be modern and glistening. Also, visit Cooper's Tavern for lunch or dinner, and find a delightful and delicious selection of contemporary American cuisine. The New Yorker Hotel will reign as royalty in midtown Manhattan.
