If you have never been on the Circle Line's NYC Rockin' the River Cruise, then you are missing a night of sheer fun and relaxation. This is a two-hour cruise that sails at 7:30 PM or 9:30 PM, so you have a choice of sunset or harbor lights, as you sail through New York Harbor to the music of an upbeat, live band, with a glass of wine or beer and a lively crowd of visitors, who are determined to have a great night out on the town. I had never heard the John Hiatt Band, called John Hiatt and the Ageless Beauties, and they fused rock, soul, country, and jazz in mixed melodic and dizzy tones, just right for the glistening New York skyline.
Although there was a brief downpour, in the middle of the cruise, people barely noticed. This summer has seen many starry nights suddenly turn thick with clouds, and then, seemingly, moments later the stars are sparkling yet again. That was the case tonight, and the Circle Line's open windows allowed the guests to gaze on the views, while well protected in the club-like ambiance. The NYC Rockin' the River Cruises are reasonable and an easy highlight of the summer. You should reserve your tickets before the season ends in early September.
