Patelson Music House presented another great, live music event. Tonight’s jazz musicians, The Mad Jazz Hatters, included River Alexander on vocals, guitar, harmonicas, kazoo, and jaw harp, Jeff Hudgins on alto saxophone and clarinet, Nick Cudahy on bass, and Jonathan Royce on percussion and slide whistle. The music was at times ethnically exotic, such as a Yiddish folk tune, and at other times traditional American, like “John Henry”. The Mad Jazz Hatters always play hummable, danceable, singable, and memorable songs, those with melodies and magnetic appeal. The range of music is eclectic and creative, and they even take audience requests. The Patelson fans were thrilled with yet another return engagement.
The Patelson Jazz guests were one again treated to wines from 67 Wine & Spirits, plus Bret Birnbaum’s Wine Cellar Sorbets, with Rosé sorbet featured tonight in chilled delight. In addition, Studio 57 Fine Arts was represented at this event by owners, Jack and Eddie, and they donated a $100 raffle certificate for their shop. Patelson guests browsed sheet music collections and the new Patelson Gift Boutique, stocked for Holiday shopping. This was, as always, a complimentary Open House, hosted by Marsha Patelson, and staff was on hand to help serve cheese and hors d’oeuvres.
The next Patelson monthly event, part of the Wine Wednesday series, will also be Co-Hosted by 67 Wine & Spirits and Wine Cellar Sorbets, with choice red and white wines poured throughout the evening, plus a new wine sorbet. The date is January 16, 2008, with Stephanie Cowell reading from her acclaimed novel, Marrying Mozart. The complimentary evenings begin at 5:30 PM and last until 7:30 PM. Stop by Joseph Patelson Music House, 160 West 56th Street, across from the Carnegie Hall stage door, and tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com.
