Patelson Music House presented another great, live Open House event, a CD Showcase. Tonight’s duo pianists, Alexander Wu and Frank Ponzio, performed for guests, who sipped wine from 67 Wine & Spirits and munched on cheese from Morton Williams Supermarket on West 57th Street. This event was very well attended and enthusiastically received. Alex and Frank played classical and ballads, in duo and solo format. Guests browsed the Patelson sheet music collection and Holiday Gift shelves.
The program's songs included: "Cajun Dance", by David Amram, duet; "A New Hiding Place", a spiritual, Alex; "A Closer Walk with Thee", a gospel, Frank; "Ain't Misbehavin', stride, Frank; Three "Preludes", by Gershwin, Alex; "Triste" and "Obrigado", by Chopin and Jobim, duet; "Wave", by Jobim, Frank; "Romantico" and "Vals Criollo", by Rafael Landestoy, Alex; "Dance Medley", Strauss Waltz, Charleston, "I Got Plenty O' Nuttin'", "Tea for Two", a Tango, "Cool", "Falling in Love with Love", all duets; Encore was "Willow, Weep for Me", Frank. Alexander and Frank are both versatile and vivacious pianists, with captivating musicality, presenting a seamless, stylized performance.
The Tuesday, January 6, 2009 CD Showcase (Howard Alden and Gene Bertoncini in Guitar Duos - Brazilian and Ballads) will again be Co-Hosted by 67 Wine & Spirits and Morton Williams Supermarkets, with choice wines and a cheese platter, served throughout the evening. This Open House event begins at 5:00 PM, and the music lasts until 6:00 PM, with a reception following for CD Sales and Networking. Stop by Joseph Patelson Music House, 160 West 56th Street, across from the Carnegie Hall stage door, and tell them you saw them on RobertaOnTheArts.com.
