Program: Original and Standard Latin Jazz
Tonight “Jazz in the Sky”, outdoors on a chilly May evening, at Terrace in the Sky, featured the very hot, Mayra Casales Latin Jazz Quintet in original and traditional Latin Jazz arrangements. They played ensemble works, with Oriente Lopez doubling on flute and piano. Mayra Casales was radiant on the congas, vocals, and exotic, Latin percussive instruments, and Robert Rodriguez played a rambunctious keyboard. Ludwig Alfonso kept the rhythm swift on drums, while Edward Perez added rich background bass. Ryan Keberle was a surprise addition, and he played powerful trombone solos. The menu at Terrace in the Sky was new for the season, with a fine three-tapas dinner at “Jazz in the Sky” pricing, which included choice of wine or cocktail. Of course, the skyline views, as always, were enticing and enchanted.
