Tonight’s “Jazz in the Sky”, outdoors on a comfortable, clear summer evening, featured the red hot Grupo Saveiro, straight from Brazil, and they sang and performed on authentic Brazilian percussion and guitar. This was danceable, driven music that inspired the senses and beckoned the dance shoes. Most musicians sang along with the instrumentals, while Dionísio Santos focused on his sultry guitar. Carlinhos Almeida played his ukulele-like cavaquinho and added vocals as well, while Jorje Silva played the tambourine-like pandeiro with his own blended vocals. César Vieira performed on the conga-like tantan with dynamic vocals, and the stars shone brightly over this Terrace in the Sky. The Portuguese lyrics, in husky tonalities, were persuasive and impassioned.
