When I am out and about in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, I always stop by Galaxy Diner for breakfast or brunch, or to have a light pre-theater supper, as Galaxy Diner is at West 46th Street and Ninth Avenue, just a block west from most Broadway shows. Sometimes, after a show, I will order a takeout dinner, like broiled chicken or Greek Salad. Elias, Galaxy Diner’s elegant Proprietor, is a former filmmaker from Greece, and he loves chatting about the local arts scene. The Galaxy Managers and Staff are extremely warm and attentive, and the astronomy frescoes on the ceiling glisten in the evenings. The Galaxy takeout menu is limitless and luscious, and now you can get 10% discount on every order through their web link!
On a recent pre-matinee visit, I ordered a California Omelette, with fresh mushrooms, avocado, tomato, and cheddar, served with tomatoes (instead of potatoes) and whole grain toast. On another pre-matinee visit, I ordered a whole wheat Toasted Bagel, with my usual Cappuccino. Sometimes, after a show I stop by for a Chardonnay and Salad and catch up on emails and news on my tablet. Galaxy Diner has personal electric outlets at several booths to charge media devices. Also, after a show, they have fresh Smoothies and Frozen Yogurt or Ice Cream, a perfect late evening snack. Galaxy Diner is open from 7 AM to 1 AM, Sunday through Thursday, and 24 Hours Friday and Saturday.
Galaxy Diner is located near all Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, Hudson River Park with the Intrepid Museum and cruise boats, Riverside Park South, and the High Line.
