After a gorgeous Saturday matinee at the Metropolitan Opera House, for American Ballet Theatre's Swan Lake, conducted by David LaMarche, Maestro LaMarche and I dined at Crompton Ale House for an early evening dinner. David's "trophy beer", Ballast Point Sculpin, was perfectly suited to the balmy evening at the end of, for him, a long work day. I enjoyed a Happy Hour white wine, as every day at Crompton Ale House, from 4 PM to 7 PM, is Happy Hour. Our private booth came with its own sports television screen and spacious seating, and we were greeted by Crompton's convivial Proprietor, Jimmy McSweeney.
We began with the best guacamole in Chelsea, served with fresh tortilla chips, and David was pleased with his Crompton Burger, wih cheddar, onion rings, and bacon. All the burgers at Crompton are a Pat La Frieda blend served with house cut fries, sweet potato fries, or house salad. I, too, was pleased with my Chopped Salad with fresh Grilled Shrimp. As a rare treat, we each continued with vanilla ice cream, topped with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. The ambiance on a weekend night at Crompton Ale House is ebullient and energized. You can come by any day, between 4 PM and 7 PM, order a Happy Hour wine, beer, or cocktail, and stay for a lively dinner, while watching your favorite sports on wide screen HD televisions.
